Rocket Women of Mission Mangal
The ancient saying which says that women belong in the kitchen and take care of the home will offend many in the current time and date. Women have now so far exceeded and moved far beyond the boundaries of the kitchen wall. The latest movie Mission Mangal has made a name for these kinds of women. These women are projected from various spheres of life, even setting their sights on Mars. When it comes near the topic Mars, one cannot resist but talk about the recently revealed teaser of ‘Mission Mangal’ starring Sonakshi Sinha, Tapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, and Akshay Kumar; which shows traditionally saree clad women who are mostly seen working the household kitchen be the ones working to successfully send a satellite to Mars. This is not a fictive thing; in fact, it is an absolute true story of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The story which highlights the many hurdles this team had to overcome to actually get the PSLV-C25 rocket into the Mars Orbit.
Ritu Kirdhal an Indian scientist, who was working with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), was the Deputy Operations Director (DOD) for India’s Mars Orbital Mission also known as Mangalyaan. She has proudly been referred to as a the “Rocket Woman” of India. She was born and brought up in Lucknow. She is a well-known aerospace engineer, who has also worked for other multiple projects in ISRO projects and also served as Operations Director for some of these.
As a child, Ritu had a vision and always wanted to touch the sky. She was constantly eager to know how and why the size of the moon decreases and increases from time to time. She started working with ISRO when she was at the age of eighteen. The MOM mission that made her famous happened to occur in the year of 2012. The best part was that the scientists just had eighteen months for the Mangal Mission. Ritu confidently says that it was all the teamwork that made the mission successful. Ritu is also the mother of two beautiful children. The best part is that she used to keep a balance between her professional and work life and despite being tired; she never neglected giving time to her family. Ritu Kirdhal’s story is similar to thousands of other women around the world who don’t neglect their home responsibilities and family and achieve a milestone in their work.
